Face Gym: How to train your face muscles to look younger
When we think about fitness, most of us picture gym sessions, cardio, and maybe even yoga. But there’s one part of the body that often gets overlooked in our training routines: the face. Just like the muscles in your body, the 40+ muscles in your face can be strengthened, toned, and sculpted—and doing so may help you achieve a firmer, more youthful appearance without the need for invasive procedures. Welcome to the world of Face Gym—a growing trend that’s turning facial exercises into a skincare game-changer.
Why training your face?
As we age, the skin naturally loses collagen and elastin, leading to sagging, fine lines, and a tired appearance. But while skincare products can nourish the skin, they don’t do much for the muscles underneath. That’s where face workouts come in. Think of it as Pilates for your face—gentle, intentional movements that create lift and firmness.
Forehead smoother
Helps reduce the appearance of horizontal forehead lines.
-
Place your fingertips just above your eyebrows.
-
Try to raise your eyebrows while pressing down gently with your fingers to create resistance.
-
Hold for 10 seconds, release, and repeat 5 times.
Cheek lifter
Lifts the cheeks and reduces laugh lines.
-
Open your mouth to form an “O.”
-
Position your upper lip over your teeth and smile to lift the cheek muscles.
-
Place your fingers lightly on the top part of your cheeks to feel the lift.
-
Hold for 10 seconds and repeat 3–5 times.
Jawline definer
Tightens the jaw and reduces sagging.
-
Tilt your head back slightly.
-
Push your lower jaw forward and hold for 5 seconds.
-
You should feel the stretch under your chin.
-
Repeat 10 times.
Eye de-puffer
Targets under-eye bags and puffiness.
-
Place your ring fingers at the inner corners of your eyes.
-
Gently sweep outwards toward the temples.
-
Repeat this motion slowly 10 times to stimulate lymphatic flow.
Just like any fitness routine, consistency is key. Start with 5–10 minutes a day, at least 4–5 days a week. You can even incorporate it into your skincare routine—do it after applying your serum or facial oil to help your fingers glide smoothly. Start today and your older self will thank you!
